President Donald Trump’s first marriage to the late Ivana Trump, which ended with her receiving a low payout in their divorce, is one of the most famous unions in pop culture history.

Even decades after the relationship, there is still a preoccupation with Ivana and Trump, 79, despite the latter now being married to Melania Trump, 55. Given so many being interested in the Czech businesswoman and her romance with the grandeur hotelier, she delved into their romance, life together before their split, and her own life in her 2017 memoir Raising Trump.

In her book, she explained early in their relationship that after she became more interested in Trump, he asked her to go on vacation with him around Christmastime. It comes after a lip reader revealed Trump’s furious 8-word question to Melania as he went into a meltdown on board Marine One.

Also in the memoir, Ivana revealed what Donald Trump was really like when they met.

Ivana divulged that the two went off to Aspen and had the “most romantic time” together.” She admitted that on New Year’s Eve, Trump told her “If you don’t marry me, you’ll ruin your life.”

Even though they’d only been together a few months, she agreed to marry him in 1977. After being married for many years, and having their three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump, they divorced in 1989 after Trump’s affair with Marla Maples, 61, came to light.

Ivana found about the extramarital affair during an unplanned interaction between her and Marla while they both were spending their holidays in Aspen, Colorado. The two women ran into each other outside of a restaurant while customers and the rest of the family were watching.

“This young blonde woman approached me out of the blue and said ‘I’m Marla and I love your husband. Do you?’” Ivana wrote in her aforementioned memoir. “I said ‘Get lost. I love my husband.’ It was unladylike but I was in shock.”

After Ivana and Trump divorced in 1990, Donald fully hopped into relationship with Marla. Trump eventually married Marla in 1993, and the two welcomed his fourth child and her first child, Tiffany, that same year.

Trump and Marla’s marriage was short lived as they separated in 1997, and while they were battling in court for two years, he met his now-wife Melania Trump.

Marla has previously described parts of their marriage as “living under the illusion” since she thought she was going to maintain her individuality.

“I was living under the illusion that I was going to have my own identity (whilst married). I really tried for a long time,” Marla said.

Trump dated Melania for many years after his second marriage was over, and they later tied the knot in 2005 before having their son Barron in 2006.
