A formal complaint now under investigation inside the Department of Labor accuses Lori Chavez DeRemer of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, repeatedly inviting him to her DC apartment and into her hotel room during official travel.

The complaint also alleges she drank in her office during the workday and committed travel fraud by directing senior aides to fabricate official trips so she could spend time with family or friends on the taxpayer’s dime.
The allegations mirror the worst behavior of Trump’s first administration. Chavez DeRemer is also accused of abusing her authority by forcing department staff to run personal errands, the same ethics violations that brought down Trump officials like Scott Pruitt. Once again, Trumpworld looks less like a government and more like a personal entitlement scheme.
From a labor perspective, the hypocrisy is glaring. Chavez DeRemer was sold as a so called pro worker pick, yet under her leadership the Labor Department has moved to roll back dozens of workplace health and safety protections. These rollbacks disproportionately harm immigrant laborers, who already face the most dangerous jobs, the weakest protections, and the greatest retaliation risks.
Publicly, she has defended Trump’s tariff policies as pro worker, even as those same tariffs raise consumer prices, destabilize supply chains, and put manufacturing and farm workers at risk. Behind closed doors, immigrant workers face harsher enforcement, fewer protections, and a department that increasingly sides with corporate interests over human lives.
A Labor Department spokesperson dismissed the allegations outright, calling her “an incredible asset to President Trump’s team.” That response says everything. In Trump’s America, ethics complaints are ignored, workers are expendable, immigrants are scapegoated, and accountability is treated as an attack.
