US President Donald Trump had a heated exchange with a reporter on BBC Breakfast, live from Air Force One, amidst the release of Israeli hostages from Gaza. The press, including BBC correspondents, were present as Trump fielded a flurry of questions.
However, one reporter seemed to hit a nerve. Trump snapped at her: “The war is over, okay? Do you understand that?” It was only when another reporter asked: “Are you confident that the ceasefire is going to hold?” that he seemed to regain his composure and respond.
He answered: “I think so. I think it’s gonna hold. I think people are… there’s a lot of reasons why it’s gonna hold, but I think people are tired of it. It’s been centuries, okay, not just recent. It’s been centuries. I think people are tired of it, yeah. The ceasefire is gonna hold.” The news comes as White House fumes at Nobel Peace Prize snub after Trump’s desperate campaign.
However, BBC Breakfast viewers expressed skepticism about Trump’s assertions, taking to social media to voice their reactions.
Trump answered questions live from Air Force One
One viewer commented:
“This is just a land grab by Israel.
“The war didn’t start on October 7th and isn’t over now.”
Another concurred:
“Sadly I wish it were true. This isn’t over is it.”
Trump has since traveled to Israel and is scheduled to participate in a summit with other global leaders.
There, he and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will finalize an agreement aimed at concluding the war.
Trump appeared to lose patience with a female reporter
In a major development, 48 Israeli hostages are set to be freed, with 20 believed to still be alive.
In return, Israel is poised to release 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, along with 1,722 detainees arrested following the attacks on October 7.
