Nearly two weeks after a 3-year-old Minnesota boy and his mother were attacked by two dogs, the boy’s heart was donated to another child following the boy’s death.

When Covil Allen of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and his mother Tasha were attacked by two dogs on Friday, July 19, it was determined that he would not survive the injuries he sustained. Therefore, the family decided to donate his organs.

Now, they report via GoFundMe that his heart was donated to a 1-year-old girl.

Family friend Lindsey Hemmerich wrote in an update on Tuesday, July 30, “This is the most beautiful thing to come from this tragedy and we couldn’t be happier that his heart was able to save someone.”

The update further states that Covil’s liver did not “fit the child on the list.”

The Allen family had been working with Life Source, an organ procurement organization, to donate Covil’s organs, per the fundraiser. “This will honor Covil’s life and save more children’s lives in hopes that no other parent has to endure the pain they are experiencing right now,” Hemmerich wrote on July 24

Nearly two weeks after a 3-year-old Minnesota boy and his mother were attacked by two dogs, the boy's heart was donated to another child following the boy's death.

Both Covil and his mother suffered severe injuries following the attack; a prior update stated that Tasha underwent three surgeries and would need multiple skin grafts.

According to Fox 9, Covil and his mother were in the backyard of a Brooklyn Park residence with his older brother Christian to adopt a puppy when he was attacked by the puppy’s parents.

During the attack, Tasha and Christian were allegedly playing with a puppy while Covil was nearby. Tasha heard her son scream and went to free him from the attack, along with the dog owner. Covil’s father told the outlet that the dogs were American Bulldogs.
