Wieloboista Hubert Trościanka jest jednym z trzech lekkoatletów nominowanych w plebiscycie European Athletics w kategorii “wschodząca gwiazda” (Men’s Rising Star). Europejska federacja wyróżniła też włoskiego skoczka wzwyż Matteo Siolego i bułgarskiego skoczka w dal Bożydara Sarabojukowa.
W tym roku 19-letni Polak wygrał mistrzostwa Europy do lat 20 w Tampere i poprawił rekord życiowy w juniorskim dziesięcioboju na 8514 pkt. Poza tym w tym sezonie przebiegł 100 m w 10,74, a 400 m w 46,21 oraz zanotował duży progres w konkurencjach technicznych.
Trenerem zawodnika klubu AZS AWF Warszawa jest Marek Rzepka, który w przeszłości współpracował z wieloma polskimi wieloboistami, w tym m.in. z Adrianną Sułek-Schubert.
10 mężczyzn zostało nominowanych przez European Athletics w kategorii “Lekkoatleta Roku”. Wśród nich są tyczkarz Armand Duplantis i dyskobol Daniel Stahl ze Szwecji, litewski dyskobol Nikolas Alekna, włoski skoczek w dal Mattia Furlani, francuski biegacz długodystansowy Jimmy Gressier, biegacz średniodystansowy Jakob Ingebrigtsen i wieloboista Sander Skotheim z Norwegii, trójskoczek Pedro Pichardo i biegacz średniodystansowy Isaac Nader z Portugalii oraz niemiecki dziesięcioboista Leo Neugebauer.
