Do tragedii doszło podczas zgrupowania reprezentacji Polski w Portugalii. 49-letni trener Maciej Juhnke, który asystował przy wielu sukcesach naszych olimpijczyków, zmarł nagle podczas zagranicznego obozu. Informację potwierdziła polska federacja.

Juhnke przez wiele lat był asystentem trenera głównego kadry kajakarek oraz trenerem kadry kajakarek do lat 23.

Juhnke jako asystent trenera Tomasza Kryka miał duży udział w wielu sukcesach polskich kajakarek na igrzyskach olimpijskich. Sam Kryk kilka dni temu pożegnał się z posadą.
