Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has stated that new US sanctions are “serious in nature” and will have consequences for Russia but allegedly will not affect its “economic well-being”.

Details: Putin claimed that US sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil will not impact Russia’s economic well-being.

He also recalled that US President Donald Trump had imposed what were then the most extensive sanctions against Russia during his first term.

Putin added that such sanctions do not “strengthen” Russo-American relations.

“The cancellation of our toilet imports will cost them dearly. I think they would have been very useful to them in today’s situation,” Putin joked in reference to the 19th EU sanctions package.

He also threatened a “very serious and staggering” response to strikes with long-range weapons deep inside Russian territory.

“This is an attempt at escalation, but if such weapons are used to strike Russian territory, the response will be very serious – if not staggering. Let them think about that,” he said in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement that the delivery of Tomahawk missiles has not been cancelled.

Background:

The United States has imposed sanctions on major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as their subsidiaries.
On the morning of 23 October, the European Union formally approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia via written procedure.

This idea instantly divided opinions! A proposal circulating online has claimed that Venezuela could become the United States’ 51st state. Legal experts point out that adding a new U.S. state would require constitutional steps, congressional approval, and consent from the country involved, making the proposal highly unrealistic.
